Secondary Program

ssWe are excited to announce that in addition to our established Elementary program, Brighton School is now offering a co-ed Secondary program for students with learning differences in grades 9 - 12. Our Secondary program has been designed to be flexible and to meet the needs of students who have different academic goals, or who require extra support, motivation or attention. Brighton Secondary is ideal for students who wish to take a full high school Diploma program (OSSD: 30 credits); or a Certificate program (OSSC: 14 credits), but need to do it more slowly and with more support. Students may have a diagnosed LD (learning disability), anxiety disorder, or may be struggling with academics.

We offer Applied, Essential (LDC), and Open courses in grades nine and ten. In grades eleven and twelve students may select Open, Workplace and/or College courses related to their preferred pathway or destination. We offer a modified course load of 6 courses per year, to enable students to complete their credits at a slower pace, over 5 or more years. Alternatively, students who wish may complete additional credits during the year through our ILC extended programs. (The Independent Learning Centre is Ontario's leading provider of accredited distance education, combining print and online components with support from certified Ontario High School teachers)

Students have the opportunity to obtain an OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) or an OSSC (Ontario Secondary School Certificate), taught by professional, enthusiastic teachers with Special Ed qualifications. Brighton is inspected and accredited by the Ministry of Education.

Certificate of Accomplishment / Non Credit Program
Students who may be working significantly below grade level and wish to continue working on their literacy and numeracy skills in small Learning Groups may enroll in our non-credit or Certificate of Accomplishment program (below 13 credits). We have an inclusive high school environment with opportunities for integration in some of our Open programs. Experiential learning is an important component of our program and the senior years include a work experience component.

Brighton Secondary School offers:
