Clubs and Co-curricular
Co-Curricular Clubs
During the 3:00 – 3:30 period each school day, all students participate in a variety of co-curricular clubs, which help to build skills, showcase talents, develop friendships and practice social skills such as teamwork, conflict resolution and problem solving. Clubs are lead by teachers and change each term. They are generally based in either physical activity or the arts, and may include racquet sports, book club, yoga, board games, construction club, fitness boot camp, field games, gardening, choir, etc. This is included in the school day and there is no extra fee for our co-curricular clubs. Some of the clubs we have offered at Brighton include:

Sportplay Sportplay uses various games and activities to develop running, jumping, throwing, catching and striking skills. The program is offered in a positive and supportive atmosphere where children can develop self-confidence, self-esteem and a healthy attitude towards physical activity. |

Cooking Club The kitchen becomes a fun, creative learning experience with weekly cooking projects like Funny Face Pizzas, Cookie Zoos, Candy & Caramel Apples, Pumpkin Pancakes, Under-the-sea-Jello, Fondue Festival, Edible Decorations, Stampwiches, Snackattack, Brain Freeze and more! |

TenTen Tennis This dynamic indoor mini-tennis program teaches the fundamentals of tennis by making it a fun and memorable learning experience. Designed by professional coaches, TenTen Tennis uses child-friendly equipment, encourages group participation, improves concentration, agility and hand-eye coordination and sportsmanship. |

Mad Science Educational, entertaining and sticky, this program explores science as it relates to the five senses. Students play with colour and light, test their taste buds, explore differences of touch using polymers (also known as slime!) and listen to the wonders of sound as their voices are distorted through the Mad Science Sound Machine. The principles of heat, magnets and movement are also covered. |

Kickball Baseball fans never had it so good! Replacing a baseball with a kickball, turns one of Canada’s favorite sports into a safe, cooperative, all-ages game. Students learn the rules of baseball while improving their coordination and ability to work in teams. |

Chess Club A game of strategy and concentration that has fascinated humankind for centuries, chess helps Brighton students improve their concentration, strategic thinking, forethought and interpersonal skills. |

Junior Mediators This discussion group for Junior and Intermediate students explores social issues affecting their age group and develops strategies using debriefing techniques, role playing exercises and videotaped activities, for managing challenging peer situations. Students become more thoughtful about how they can have a positive impact on their peers and class environment. |

Cooperative Games Cooperative games embodies the purpose of our Co-Curricular program. By working towards a common goal, such as building a giant structure, using co-operskis, the grouploop and noodle games, students learn cooperation, negotiation, sportsmanship and how to build and maintain relationships at the same time. |

Yoga Yoga poses and breathing practices are taught through games, stories and partner work with certified instructor Shirlee Williams of YogaBears. These classes work on concentration, social skills, body awareness and positive peer interaction. The goal during these classes is for students to learn how to combine the body, mind and spirit, and to be able to take these skills and transfer them to their everyday lives. |

Art Academy Club Fabulous and amazing creations and exciting art activities will be in store once again in the Art Academy Club. Each week, students will explore a variety of arts and craft techniques and experiment with a wide range of creative art materials. |

Drama A combination of fun, creative, and entertaining theatre activities such as improvisations, movement, silent scenes, dialogue development, scene starters, and theater games help to encourage group trust, cooperation, communication and enjoyment. |

Skating Have a blast on the ice whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skater. Join in rink games such as Stride and Glide, 1,2,3 Red Light, Pair-Shadows, Freeze Tag, and Spelling on Ice! |

Dance Aerobics This fun and effective program is designed to build fitness skills and encourage students to be more active. Students will improve skills in aerobic endurance, strength, flexibility, coordination, creative movement and dance. |
Girl's Club
The Brighton girls meet monthly at lunchtime to participate in a variety of activities such as cooking, dance, photography, fashion and baking. There is no fee for this club.
