On October 3, 2019, the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) announced a public inquiry into human rights issues that affect students with reading disabilities in Ontario’s public education system. The Right to Read inquiry, which focused on early reading skills, found that Ontario’s public education system is failing students with reading disabilities (such as dyslexia) and many others, by not using evidence-based approaches to teach them to read.

New study on Risk Play

On January 25, 2024, the Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) released a new study about Risky
Play. Playing is crucial for children’s overall health and social development. However, opportunities for outdoor play, particularly activities involving some risk (risk play), have decreased due to safety concerns. Pediatricians believe that allowing children to engage in risky play outdoors can help prevent and address health issues like obesity, anxiety, and behavioral problems.
